Awesome book cover Friday: The Warded Man

This week’s selection is The Warded Man (also called The Painted Man) by Peter V. Brett, part one in a fantasy series and first published in 2008.

Brett’s series features some cool international covers. Check out the ones for the US, Germany, Portugal, and Estonia below.

Which one is your favorite? I love the German design, but I can’t get over how awesome Portugal’s is!

These are great! I agree, I think the German one is my fave too. I really do love each one tho. The feel of the first one gets to me, lol. In a good way :)

Same! The German one has that cool, mysterious fantasy vibe, but each one is unique and interesting! Can’t go wrong with hooded figures, though, haha!

Awesome covers, although the original one is a tad generic. ^^
I agree about the German cover being wonderfully mysterious, too bad the translation is so horrible (as most are here). :(
Even the title has nothing to do with the book as far as I can tell. Song of Darkness? Whu?

Thanks for your comment! Books in translation can be iffy, unfortunately. I’m sure that’s why the title suffered as it was changed, too. The end result depends on the publisher as much as the translator, it seems!

The Portugal one is my favorite because it actually references some of the math that goes into warding with the title text. There are many keys into the book with it between the spears, the fire, the shield, and the mystery man himself.

Tell me something!
