Happy MLK Day! It’s Monday again, which means it’s time to share my latest endeavors. Even if you don’t participate regularly or don’t intend to, feel free to talk about what books you’re reading in the comments.
What I’ve been reading
I polished off The Jazz Cage by Ray Chen Smith (review here) and the Russian novel Death and the Penguin by Andrey Kurkov. More on that this week! In short, it’s good and depressing at the same time — so one of “those” books.
I know there’s a sequel, so I’m going to have to read that because I flew through this one.
That makes two books so far for what’s looking like a very busy 2013. :)
What I’m reading now
Here I come, The Casual Vacancy! Yay! I’ve been looking forward to this one.
What I plan to read next
February is around the corner, which means I need to read a historical mystery for the Eclectic Reader Challenge. Not sure yet what I’m going to pick. Any suggestions?
I need to squeeze in The Fault in Our Stars next month, too. LONG OVERDUE. And I want to read Boneshaker since I came across that recently.
What are your reading plans? What books have you discovered lately? Any good recommendations — or words of caution? ;)

What I’m reading: Fallen by Lauren Kate (which I took from my sister because it was lonely and unread ^-^)
What I will be reading after: probably “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult (which was recommended to me by my American Literature teacher) or “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales” by Oliver Sacks (which was on the list of books to read in Psych class and in my personal list)

I’m reading “Anna Karenina” but it’s super, super long. SO based on Goodreads’s tracker, I’m no longer ahead so I’m starting “Miss Me Not” by Tiffany King today and picking up AK once I get ‘ahead.’ A 100 book goal is really demanding.

That is demanding! Good luck! How many did you read last year?

Around 70. I have also been counting books I abandon because I feel like I experienced them fine enough without suffering every page. Last year that was 5-6 books. This year, it’s 2 already…

Nice! That’s quite an accomplishment even with those few. :)

I think so too! I am on tract thus far… but I picked short books for January, haha. We’ll see how long Anna Karenina takes…
