I really love the cover for the new paperback version of J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy.
What do you think? It’s so sleek and pristine, which is the public face but not the reality of the town of Pagford. The Casual Vacancy is Rowling’s “adult” book, and boy, is it ever. It’s all about hypocrites, gossip, relationships, and societal life. Read my review and check out the original cover here.
I’ve not read it yet, is it good? I gotta respect her, she could be set for life from Harry Potter but she’s still writing and challenging herself. Go J.K.!

It’s very good! I have a review up if you want to read more about the book. And I agree — so good to see advocates for Rowling! She got a lot of flack for The Casual Vacancy, but she should be commended for it, I think. She took a risk and tried something new outside of her (and many people’s) comfort zone.

That’s nice! I think I like the other paperback cover better – this one looks a little unnaturally edited and makes the book look plainer than it really is. But still an attractive design.

Do you mean this one, Mathew?
I like it a lot, too — maybe even better than the one I posted because of how the colors work together. But as I mentioned, I like what the other cover is “saying” much more.

Yes, that’s the one. It’s like they took all my favourite colours and designed beautiful shapes out of them!
That’s true, it does get the point across better.

i like anything better than the hardback cover. that was god-awful. actually i think that uk pb version is great. i had mixed feelings about this book, but i do agree that it was very brave of rowling the venture out a try something new – to risk failing. always good discussions here, stephanie. :)

Agreed, the hardcover is awful! It does feel nice and soft, though. :)
